Closing tabs

I found that if you click the X on the Map or Legend tab, it will disappear and there is not way to get it back (I had to delete the extensions folder).

How about File->Reset Window Layout?

Of course! Sorry to be so dense.

An idea: I don't know under what circumstances a user would want the map window and/or legend totally hidden. Maybe you should trap the click on the "X" so that it just collapses to the margin (like auto-hide).

The tabbed interface is cool (like VS) but how appropriate is it? Can you have multiple map tabs? Are there other types of tabs? Is this mainly used for extensibility (like for HydroDesktop)?

Thanks

We've toyed with the idea of a "window manager" that would let the user show panes that have been hidden or activate panes.

This is used for extensibility. An extension can add additional tabs (panes). It could add one with another map, though that map would be somewhat isolated from the legend, etc. by default.

Also, it improved support for multiple monitors.
